Sonny is Director, Business Development at Kalex Partners Inc., where he leads business development initiatives for the firm's mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, and corporate finance advisory practices. He works closely with business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, family enterprises, legal and financial professionals, and corporate executives to identify strategic opportunities and connect clients with the firm's multidisciplinary advisory expertise. With more than 30 years of experience spanning corporate finance, real estate investment, technology ventures, international business development, and cross-border investment advisory, Sonny has built an extensive network of business and corporate finance leaders throughout Canada and the Asia-Pacific region.

 

His career has focused on helping companies raise capital, pursue strategic acquisitions, expand internationally, and develop long-term growth strategies. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Korea Business Council, where he promotes bilateral trade, investment, and strategic partnerships between Canada and Korea by advising business and government leaders and organizing international trade missions and investment conferences. In addition, Sonny serves as Strategic Advisor – Asia to the Toronto Business Development Centre, supporting international technology companies entering the Canadian market, and as Senior Business Advisor to Insignary, a cybersecurity software company.

 

He is a member of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries and serves on the Development Committee of Tafelmusik, one of Canada's internationally acclaimed period orchestras. Earlier in his career, Sonny held senior corporate development and finance positions with leading technology ventures, including Davnet, StorageASP, and Telagora, following finance and asset management roles with Ivanhoé Cambridge and Morguard Investments. From 2011 to 2018, he served as a Director of the Ontario Place Corporation. Throughout his career, Sonny has advised and collaborated with many of Asia's leading organizations, including Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hanwha Group, Shinhan Bank, KEB Hana Bank, Omron, Fuji, Puratos, and numerous high-growth technology companies pursuing international expansion.
